Canada Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) guidance

Every CTC program runs for 12 weeks — under the six-month threshold — so you may study on a visitor visa or eTA and do not need a Canadian study permit.

Important: CTC is a training provider, not an immigration adviser. The information here is general guidance only. For advice about your own circumstances, contact Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or a licensed Canadian immigration consultant.

Why a visitor visa works

Short programs, simpler immigration

Canadian immigration rules allow a person to take a course of six months or less while in Canada as a visitor. Every program at Career Technical Centre runs for 12 weeks — comfortably inside that limit — which means you do not need to apply for a study permit.

Depending on your nationality, you will need either a Temporary Resident Visa (a visa sticker in your passport) or an Electronic Travel Authorisation. Which one applies is determined by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), not by us.

What CTC provides

  • An official invitation letter on CTC letterhead, issued once you accept your offer
  • Confirmation of your course, intake dates, delivery mode and full fee schedule
  • Accommodation confirmation when you have paid your accommodation fee
  • Receipts for every payment, which help evidence your financial arrangements

What CTC cannot do

  • Submit a visa application on your behalf
  • Give advice about your personal immigration circumstances
  • Guarantee that a visa will be issued — that decision is entirely IRCC's
  • Influence processing times

Timing

Start your application at least ten weeks before your intake. Processing times vary widely by country and season. Do not book flights until you have a decision, and do not pay your course and accommodation fees until your visa is approved — that sequencing is built into our admissions process for exactly this reason.

Working while you study

A visitor visa does not permit you to work in Canada. CTC programs are full-time and intensive, and our fee structure is designed so that you do not need to work during the twelve weeks.

Frequently asked visa questions

No. Programs of six months or less can be taken on a visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa) or an Electronic Travel Authorisation if you are from a visa-exempt country. Because every CTC program is 12 weeks, a study permit is not required.
